Companion is an excellent low maintenance grass cover crop that was specifically formulated for use in orchards and vineyards. It establishes rapidly, but grows low and slow, requiring only one to three mowings a year depending on location. Often used for erosion control as well, due to its desirable characteristics.
Companion has been sown on literally thousands of acres- from pathways and roadsides to orchards, vineyards and Christmas tree plantations - proving itself vigorously competitive with perennial weeds such as dandelions, Canada thistle and field bindweed, as well as annual weeds.
Companion is also popular for being extremely persistent year after year because of its unique ability to recover quickly from heavy traffic and wear. Additionally, this mix requires a minimum amount of moisture and fertilizer.
Mix Includes: Dwarf Perennial Ryegrass, Creeping Red Fescue
Features & Benefits: widely adaptable, slow growing, wear tolerant, shade tolerant, cold tolerant, quick establishment, disease resistant
Application Rate*: 50 lbs per acre
7 - 10 lbs per 1000 sq ft for home orchards
* The application rate for Companion varies depending use and purpose. Rough seed applications for cover crops or for planting "the back 40" require less seed than a home lawn where a dense stand of grass is desired.
